Background

In my diploma project at ENSCi les Ateliers, I'm exploring the story of my family's emigration, from Romania to France, via 30 years of life in Africa.

I'm deconstructing my grandparents' oral accounts, isolating the emotions of the moments they experienced, and transcribing their story into objects.

Process

These objects, which come together to form a sculpture, are telephones. Five telephones for the five members of my family. Every Sunday, at 8pm, the phones call each other and ring. At the other end of the line, a different member of the family each week.

In contrast to the telephone, the object imposes its function, imposing the maintenance of family ties.

These twin telephones pay tribute to my grandfather and the powerful bond he managed to maintain throughout the family.
